Lyons Dental Services
Dentistry has changed significantly and now offers more preventive services and procedures to help you with your oral health. There are also many procedures available to help you get the smile you have always wanted. For example, bonding can help make teeth look whiter, straighter, repair chips and close spaces. A teeth whitening procedure is offered that is comfortable, simple and an investment in your smile. Feedback from patients who have received these dental services have been positive, including increased self-confidence, self-esteem and simply being more comfortable meeting people and public speaking.
Lyons Dental works with referral dentists located nearby for more specialized procedures.
Services offered at Lyons Dental
This is list is not exhaustive. Lyons Dental is a general dentistry practice. We do not offer all dental services as a small office but what we do offer we are very proud of our services and dedication to our patients.

Diagnostics
Diagnostics includes an examination of your teeth and soft tissue of the mouth which includes oral cancer screening. X-rays are taken to help detect cavities.
Preventive Care
Preventive care includes cleanings, fluoride, education and sealants for children. Cleanings remove dental plaque to help prevent cavities and gingivitis (inflammation of gums) which can lead to periodontal disease (bone loss). Teeth cleanings also remove hardened deposits known as tartar.
Education and information includes what you can do at home for health teeth and gums including regular brushing and flossing.
Dental sealants are thin plastic coatings that are applied to the grooves on the chewing surfaces of the back teeth to protect them from tooth decay. Most tooth decay in children and teens occurs on these surfaces. Sealants protect the chewing surfaces from tooth decay by keeping germs and food particles out of these grooves. Permanent molars are the most likely to benefit from sealants. The first molars usually come in when a child is about 6 years old and second molars appear at about age 12 (although the age range can vary). It is best if the sealant is applied soon after the teeth have erupted, before they have a chance to decay.
Restorative
Restorative includes fillings, crowns and bridges and is about getting your teeth restored to a functional state. Restorative dentistry also includes repairing cracked teeth and replacing leaking fillings. Lyons Dental offers composite resin filling materials that closely match the color of your teeth.
Dentistry for Children
Dr. Johnstone wants to introduce children to dentistry in a positive and comfortable setting so they have a positive early dental experience. He recommends bringing in young children if only to observe other family members getting their teeth cleaned. Little children often enjoy simply setting in the dental chair and riding it up and down. Some children will set on the lap of a parent to have their teeth counted and parents receive valuable information.
Children with dental cavities can experience discomfort, problems eating, restless nights and difficulty in concentrating. Prevention is always best but this is challenging with sweet foods and regular (and proper) brushing.
For children who need extensive work or who are fearful, Lyons Dental will refer our little patients to pediatric dentists in the area.
Cosmetic and Other Dental Services
Cosmetic and other dental services will depend on your needs and desires, our diagnostics and our capacity to serve you. This includes teeth whitening, consultation for planning to meet you oral health needs, information and education, and referrals.
